Got a Habit You Want to Ditch?

We all form habits for things we do all the time, like setting the alarm or brushing our teeth,  taking a shower.  We don’t have to make a new plan for these actions every morning.  Habits can be very helpful, and very hard to break if you’ve formed a habit that isn’t in your best interest.   Sometimes it helps to think of your habits as Real Estate and yourself as the seller or buyer.

If you have a habit you want to break, like smoking,  think of yourself as a “Motivated Seller.” What are all the reasons you want to get rid of (sell) this habit? In what ways would your life be different if you could sell off this property?  Try phrasing it this way: I want _____________; so that I can/will______, and can/will.  Positive phrasing is important (Ocean View, remember?) Positive statement: I want healthy lungs so that I can breathe fully and can enjoy clean air in my home.  Write your “Sell Order” on a 3 x 5 card and put it where you can see it.

Have you been successful in breaking a bad habit? How did you do it?
